Bowery Meat CompanyLower East Side, New York CityChef & Owner Josh CaponExecutive Chef Paul DiBariExecutive Pastry Chef Katie McAllisterAccolades:-2 Stars, New York TimesReview:Last night Bowery Meat Company excelled on all levels. The service (especially the knowledgeable Wine Director, Julien Moreno), and the food were equally as good. Now, BMC is not your typical steakhouse. It is a steakhouse that when Chef Josh Capon adds his modern touch, in the end, it’s hardly a steakhouse at all. Yes, you will be shown each of the steaks Mr. Capon has on his menu tableside, and if you’re lucky, it will be Chef Capon himself. But this is just a tactic to get you to spend big on huge hunks of meat as they of course will be the most expensive items on the menu. This is not to say they won’t be good, I wouldn’t know, but the highlights of this restaurant in my opinion are actually the atypical steakhouse dishes. For example, the Short Rib Ravioli was a real hit. Cooked al dente and filled with buttery short rib and covered nicely with parmesan cheese. Chef Capon likes to use rosemary butter instead of the often used brown butter sage. That was a nice touch.Their signature Duck Lasagna for Two lived up to the hype big time. Generously filled with luscious braised duck and oozing with caciocavallo cheese. It was served in a casserole dish and plated tableside. The top layer is encrusted in parmesan cheese giving it a nice crunchy texture.Although the portions are generous here and you may be full at this point, don’t miss out on dessert and get the S’mores Sundae. And unless you’re like me, it’s for sharing although once tasted, that may change. All in all BMC is a restaurant that’s worth heading all the way downtown for. From my experience, the only negative was the noise level. It was probably one of the loudest restaurants I’ve ever been to so bring your shouting voices. In spite of that, make the trip. The food was that good. Just make sure you stick with the popular dishes or you may be disappointed.2/4 Stars Good Very Good Excellent World Class

Spectacular Swordfish. Friend and I had a wonderful meal here. Impressive and cool spot. Oysters were very tasty and seasoned to perfection. I love seafood, so I really appreciated the kitchen’s effort.Highlight was the grilled swordfish. So delicious! Not dry at all.Our server recommended the Adirondack cocktail, which was incredible! Apple brandy was the main component, and it went down smoothly and very warm.Overall an excellent dining choice.
